An injury caused by the venom of a scorpion.
Although painful, scorpion stings are mostly harmless. Worldwide, of more than 2,000 species of scorpions, about 100 produce venom that could be fatal. Scorpion stings are most serious in young children, older adults, and pets.
Mild symptoms include pain, numbness, and swelling at the sting site. Severe symptoms include muscle twitching, sweating, and drooling.
Most stings don't need treatment. Severe cases may need antivenom.
