In 1997, he participated in the "Laparoscopic Surgery" training organized by the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) in France, and in the same year, he received training as an observer in the Minimally Invasive Surgery and Endoscopy units under the team of Prof. Dr. Ingemar Ihse at the General Surgery Department at Lund University in Sweden.
At the end of 1997, he started working at the Norwegian National Center for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery (NSALK) to specialize in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries and began his PhD studies by receiving a university scholarship from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
He received a medical degree from Oslo University Faculty of Medicine again.
After completing his compulsory service and internship (turnustjeneste), he obtained a Norwegian fully qualified medical license (Norsk autorisasjon som lege).
He worked as a specialist assistant at the General Surgery Clinic of St. Olav’s University Hospital.
In addition to basic laparoscopic procedures, he worked in the team that performed advanced laparoscopic obesity, metabolic surgery, reflux, colon rectum and adrenal gland surgeries.
He has conducted and published many studies about robotic surgery, surgical technology, navigation in laparoscopic surgery.
He worked as an instructor in numerous national and international courses held annually at the Norwegian National Center for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.
He attended numerous courses held in Norway and various parts of Europe.
He has published numerous articles on tissue blood flow and physiological effects of pressurized carbon dioxide gas used in laparoscopic surgery at the Animal Laboratory of St. Olav’s University Hospital.
During his 10-year stay in Norway, he continued his education-research-clinical triangle (experimental studies in the animal laboratory, course activities of other surgeons in the training center and surgical practices at St. Olav's University Hospital).
He worked for two terms on the Technology Committee of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).
After returning to Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2007, he continued to work part-time at the national center in Norway.
He established Türkiye's first multidisciplinary obesity and metabolic surgery center at Marmara University upon starting his career there.
Since 2007, he has performed the first primary and revisional laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric band surgery revisions, along with reflux, spleen, and adrenal surgeries.
In 2008, he became an associate professor in the General Surgery Department at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine.
In 2011, he established the second Multidisciplinary Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Center at Istanbul Bilim University.
He took part in the obesity study groups of the Ministry of Health.
In 2009, he received Single-Incision Laparoscopy training at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and in 2011, he received Robotic Surgery training at the IRCAD-EITS Training Center in Strasbourg, France.
He performed the first robotic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in Türkiye.
In 2010, he worked as an observer on bariatric and metabolic surgery at New Jersey Bariatrics and Atlantic Health Group in the USA.
In 2013 and 2014, he participated in Multidisciplinary Obesity Treatment and Bariatric Surgery trainings at the Cleveland Clinic Ohio in the USA.
He started working at the American Hospital in 2013 and at Koç University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 2015, and he established the Multidisciplinary Obesity Center and Metabolic Surgery Center at these hospitals.
His "H-Index" is 16, and "i10-Index" is 19. As of 2025, he has 81 international and national publications and authored 4 book chapters (a total of 1,135 citations have been made to these publications).
