A parasite that can live and feed in human intestines and spreads through tapeworm eggs or larvae.

A tapeworm infection happens when the parasite's eggs or larvae enter the body in undercooked beef or pork. Tapeworm infection may stay in the intestines and cause digestive problems. Or the infection may damage organs or tissues in other parts of the body.

Tapeworm infection may not cause symptoms. If it does, symptoms of infection in the intestines may include upset stomach, belly pain or loose stools, called diarrhea. Symptoms of an infection in other areas may include seizures, nerve pain or damage in the infected organ.

Medicines that target parasites help get rid of an infection in the intestines. Other medicines, surgery or procedures are used if the tapeworm infection is in other parts of the body.
