Once the fever starts, a rash often appears and spreads to the rest of the body. Serious illness can lead to vomiting, low blood pressure, confusion, coma or death.

Spotted fever treatment often involves taking medicines called antibiotics that help get rid of germs. For serious illnesses, hospital care may be needed. This could include receiving fluids through a vein.
