THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT

The “Healthy Generations Start with Us” project was implemented with the aim of inspiring and setting an example for future generations through hygienic, environmental, cultural and historical studies. In the "Healthy Generations Begin with Us" project, it was aimed to provide primary school students with information about the historical artifacts in Bodrum American Hospital, Türkiye's first "Museum Hospital", while also providing them with information about hand hygiene and sea cleanliness.

THE SUBJECT OF THE PROJECT

At Bodrum American Hospital, which received the title of Türkiye's first "Museum Hospital" in the "Healthy Generations Begin with Us" project, students visit the museum area where historical artifacts from the "Late Roman Period" are discovered, preserved and exhibited and learned about mosaics. On the other hand, students gain important information about hand hygiene. Nurse Turceyin Yıldız from Bodrum American Hospital's Infectious Diseases Department explains the children basic information about hand hygiene and demonstrates techniques for proper hand washing. To encourage the habit of hand washing, students are given soap as a gift at the end of the activity. In addition, students are provided information on environmental and marine cleanliness by the DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA.

As part of the project, starting in 2024, primary schools are being visited to conduct nutrition seminars for students. Dietitian Billur Çalık from Bodrum American Hospital’s Nutrition and Diet Department meets with students from Mod College Bodrum, Güler Mustafa Kızılağaç Primary School, and Umurça Ömer Akın Primary School to inform them about topics such as "What is Healthy Eating?", "What are Food Groups?", and "What are the Benefits of Healthy Eating?" as part of the Nutrition Seminar. To motivate students, a raffle is held at the end of the seminar, and the students whose names drawn, are invited to the hospital for body analyses, including measurements of height, weight, fat, and muscle ratios.

THE COMMUNITY TARGETED IN THE PROJECT

Primary School students and their families living in Bodrum.

COMMUNITY'S NEEDS MEET

Students participating in the "Museum Hospital" tour with the "Healthy Generations Begin with Us" project not only visit the mosaics and learn historical information, but also socialize and get fun insights about career planning such as "how to become a healthcare professional". In the project supported by hand hygiene practices, the correct hand washing steps are shown and the habit of hand washing is also gained. In addition, thanks to the information provided about environmental and coastal cleaning in collaboration with DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA, awareness is raised about the cleanliness of the seas and surrounding areas. Nutrition seminars are held with primary school students at their schools. Topics covered include "What is Healthy Eating?", "What are Food Groups?", and "What are the Benefits of Healthy Eating?"

WHAT RESULT DID THE PROJECT GIVE? / WHAT DID HE ACHIEVE?

Aiming to inspire and set an example for future generations, Bodrum American Hospital continues to host primary school students from different regions of Bodrum within the scope of the "Healthy Generations Start with Us" project. To date, a total of 249 students from TED College, Umurca Primary School, Atatürk Primary School, Güler Mustafa Kızılagaç Primary School, Konacık Cahit Özvezneci Primary School, Dr. H. Mümtaz Ataman Primary School, Sehit Serkan Göker Primary School, Hüseyin Boyacı Primary School, Umurca Ömer Akın Primary School, and Bodrum MOD College have been provided education. Thanks to these trainings, students learned about health and history, as well as what needs to be done about hand hygiene and cleanliness of the seas, while visiting the mosaics in the museum area. The “Healthy Generations Start with Us” project contributes to raising future generations' awareness of health, a clean environment and proper nutrition.

As a remarkable event on the Disability Awareness Week 2025, Bodrum American Hospital hosted special needs students from Yahşi Education and Application School. Students not only took a tour of Türkiye’s very first “Museum Hospital” but also were informed about the significance of hand hygiene during the event, which was held as part of the “Health Generations Begin with US” project.

Aiming to raise awareness on public health, Bodrum American Hospital hosted 10 special students and their teachers from Yahşi Education and Application school as part of the “Disability Awareness Week”. Afterwards, the students had a talk about health with Pediatrics Specialist Dr. Seçkin Kurt. Students were given detailed information about the significance of washing hands and shown correct hand washing techniques in an applied manner. The training session was completed together with infectious diseases nurse Gamze Sarıkaya, and students were gifted soaps to remind them of hand hygiene.
